The web is moving quickly away from the roots. Looking backwards, just ten years ago, many sites
just had some basic text with simple fonts
like Helvetica or Times Roman on their site. The lack of transfer speed lead to minimalistic web design, using only few fonts and graphic elements. This basic
concept has changed immediately. Thousands of colours, a large variety of various fonts, video and audi - the web became a true „war place“, where
publishers are searching for visitors at nearly any price.
The ranking position became more valuable than the content nowadays. A whole industry of people is just busy filling the web with Google-comfortable wordings. A keyword search on topic like „fonts“ or „health insurance“ will give a flood of aggressive popups, overloaded Adsense ads and stupid nonsense. This misuse of the search machines like Google only for keyword search is at the end resulting in much lesser impact values. The cheapest rubbish with much ads found on many sites today is boring. Some websites give the feeling that the visitor needs a good surgeon or the cheapest medical insurance to survive them. But a medical insurance will not cure this disease.
But what is the cure? Are there any alternatives? How should the net change? It is not like a hair
transplant
, where the hair grows after beeing transplanted … Yes, the web should come back to its roots. Straight forward designs, not too many fonts, a
good value of content: Soon a benefit becomes visible.
An example for demonstration: A simple design with few colours can make a normal free web directory outstanding from the many others. Whether a web directory or a website with nice fonts – in many cases „less“ is better than „more“. So the credo should be: concentrate on usability instead of overloading. You see one player which was very successful with every keyword search you do: Google.
