The purpose of a persuasive essay, as the name implies, is to persuade your reader to accept your point of view. The only way to ensure this is to go about it the right way. And the right way begins with knowing who you are going to persuade. The next thing to know is what it is that you are going to persuade them about. And last of all how you are doing to do this. At this juncture this may seem like an oversimplification. Nonetheless this is the route you have to take to make your reader see your point of view.
You may not realize it, but each one of us has a certain style of writing. Your regular style may not suit the audience of your persuasion paper. So the first thing you have to determine is who you are writing this paper for. It may be necessary for you to alter your style. If you are addressing a group of academics, then your language must be in a more scholastic style. If you are addressing a group of under graduates you may need to tone down your language a bit using simple descriptions in the place of college definitions.
Identifying your audience has yet another advantage. You can gauge to a degree of accuracy what it is that will interest them, how you will get them emotionally involved, and what can be their possible objections and how to deal with those objections.
Next identify the principle point around which your paper is based. Getting into frivolous details will only make it more difficult to hold the attention of your readers. This point should be clear and crisp. An ambiguous statement will only make it more difficult for your reader to identify with your cause.
Now decide what it is that you are going to offer as evidence in support of your argument. Use only the strongest points. Limp arguments will only put off your reader. You can use the opinion of experts, statistics, your own experience, and even similar situations in support of your view point.
The next thing to do is consider a few of the most popular alternatives suggested by others. Do an analysis of these objections. Give credit where it is due. But ultimately give your reason as to why these points are subordinate to your own. Do not merely express your personal opinion, but give concrete reasons as to why these alternative arguments are untenable.
Having decided who you will be writing for, what you will be writing about and how you will be writing it, it now time to focus on your presentation. Your introduction should open with a hook line that will grab the attention of your reader. The introduction should also tell your reader what your paper will be about and what to expect from the rest of the paper.
Next is the body of your essays. It should consist of brief paragraphs with every paragraph having a topic sentence and a concluding sentence. Ensure that the concluding sentence of your paragraph summarizes what has been said in the paragraph and introduces what is to be expected in the following paragraph.
Your conclusion should be a lucid summary of the essay restating the core theme of the paper and a reiteration of the more significant evidence. Any persuasive essay that follows these simple steps should result in a reasonably good paper. However this should not be taken as a short cut to success. A large part of any excellent paper is extensive research and dedicated hard work. Montana essays are also good.
