There’s a growing sense in todays computer / technology community that building your own computer is not worth the hassle, that computers are such a commodity now that its simply not worth the effort to build a computer, that no money will be saved. A relatively new website, PennyWise PCs, is showing that this is patently false. Their page, Why build a computer, shows a detailed price comparison between a computer built by dell and one build by you - and the one you build is just over half the price.

One of the main hurdles people encounter when wanting to build their own computer is that they don’t know what parts to choose. PennyWise PCs takes care of that to - every day this month they’re posting a new build for a computer, for pretty much every price range - from $150 to $4000. So even if you don’t know what parts to choose, as long as you can follow the instructions that come with the parts, you can build your own computer.

Even if you don’t feel comfortable fiddling with expensive electronics, they still have an option available. If you send the people over at PennyWise PCs an email, they’ll build it for you. Thats right, they’ll work with to you figure out what parts you need, and when they’ve come up with a set of components that works for you, they’ll build it for you. Obviously, thats not free - but their price is still pretty reasonable. Its a flat rage charge of %15+price of components. So a $100 computer is now $115, etc.
